Tae Kwon Do is the way of the hand and foot. It is a Korean form of martial arts, which is still young to its counterparts, yet growing faster and faster each day. "Tae" means to strike or block with the foot or to kick, it also means "jump". "Kwon" means fist, to strike or block with the hand. "Do" means the way of or art. Tae Kwon Do begins with learning forms, stances, blocks, hand strikes, and kicks. Further in to the training, the students learn to spar.
Tae Kwon Do is the most practiced martial art in the world today and a new member in the Olympics. Its growing popularity is made possible by its dedicated masters, instructors, students, and families.
Hap Ki Do is a dynamic and also eclectic Korean martial art. It is a form of self-defense that employs joint locks, techniques of other martial arts, as well as kicks, punches, and other striking attacks. There is also the use of traditional weapons, including a sword, rope, cane, short stick, and staff (gun) which vary in emphasis depending on the particular tradition examined.
Hap Ki Do contains both long and close range fighting techniques, utilizing jumping kicks and percussive hand strikes at longer ranges and pressure point strikes, joint locks, or throws at closer fighting distances. Hapkido emphasizes circular motion, non-resisting movements, and control of the opponent. Practitioners seek to gain advantage through footwork and body positioning to employ leverage, avoiding the use of strength against strength.
The Women's Self-Defense course combines the usage of pressure points, take downs, and ground fighting, as well as using such items as a purse, keys, pens, or a belt as a weapon. You will also learn how to escape from an attacker when grabbed from behind. The training involves stretching, warm up exercises, cardio vascular work outs, kicks, and defense against weapons. It will build on skills you already have, and we provide a caring environment when women feel safe to train. The physical techniques are easy to remember, and the defenses are based on intelligence, not muscle.
What will you get from the training? You will gain self-confidense, calmness in stressful situations, assertiveness, awareness of your surroundings, self-esteem, and self-worth. You will build on existing strengths, we will provide support and encouragement, and you will realize you have value over and beyond that of an attacker. Finally, it will enable you to connect with your own stength and power.
